Somerville Open Studios

Spring obviously feels a little different this year in Boston, but I'm still excited for the energy of this week as the House debates the budget. I'm looking forward to working long hours, sitting in the state house gallery until late, then heading home to work even later in the studio to prepare for Somerville Open Studios.

Once again I'll have space on the balcony at the Armory on May 4 + 5, and I hope to see you there.
(In the meantime, you can check out The Globe's great shout out to SOS here!)

Back in the studio. These are the very beginnings of some new work. All neutral everything.

05 February 2013

I'm really excited to be a part of Somerville Local First's Local is for Lovers 2.0. It's coming up this Sunday at the Somerville Armory, where I'll be joined by 34 other local vendors. We're talking a little bit of everything, guys: art, music, beers, food... I'm looking forward to seeing a lot of new vendors who I haven't seen around before. I'll have some Valentines-themed pieces on hand, and lots of new work that's been piling up over the winter.

And no - I don't update this blog terribly often. As a reminder, if you're looking for more of my work or want to get in touch, please head to my website here.

The Somerville Beat

Things have been quiet around here lately. I've decided to take the holiday market season off to focus on a number of things personal and professional, including putting together brand new work, taking old ideas in a different direction.

So that brings me to two quick announcements... first, holiday commissions. Without big fairs on the horizon I have a lot of time over the next few weeks to do affordable, custom work. Email me for details.

I'm also excited to share this post about me and my work that went up on The Somerville Beat this morning! Elyse Andrews came by my studio last week to chat about my art, my job, and how much we love this little city. Click through for the article, and be sure to stick around and read up on what's happening in Somerville.

05 September 2012

When I built our new kitchen table a few months ago, I had a scrap piece of wood left over that I decided to turn into a rack to hang our necklaces from.

I had a lot of fun putting it together, so I decided that I'd make a test run of them for Picnic. I took it a step further this time and took a blind stab at weathering them before staining and painting. Here's are a couple of close-up shots of a few of the finished pieces:

I wasn't sure how they'd be received, but I sold the entire first run, so I'll be making more for the winter markets. I'm currently working on incorporating old maps and photographs into some of them as well.

picnic!

I've been too busy with a room-by-room apartment overhaul to spend much time in the new studio, aside from the hours spent getting it all set up. But the arrival of Picnic banners in my inbox is a nice reminder that it's time to get back to work.

So for those of you looking to find me this summer, you have two chances coming up in the next month. First, I'll have a table at the Somerville Rock & Roll Yard Sale on August 19th.

Then you can catch me sharing my tent with the lovely Emily Garfield at Picnic in Portland, ME on August 25th. I definitely recommend clicking through and checking out the vendor list. Lots of great folks and fun original work.

See you in August!

New studio... Again.

I've moved! One room over. My home studio is now in my old bedroom. My space has doubled, now I just need to find the time to work in it. More pictures soon, but here's a quick peek.

More from the backyard.

I had lots of big plans for this weekend, but strep throat and a fever derailed all of them. But this morning, after ginger tea and lots of ibuprofen, I was able to cross spending time in the garden off my list. The tomatoes are finally fruiting! And we harvested a ton of Swiss chard, our first few serranos, some straggler peas, dill, chives, and another fistful of wildflowers.
